The Story of the Piece

A charming 1940s Ostby & Barton ring in 10K yellow gold, featuring a richly colored oval natural garnet in a smooth bezel. Heart motifs, delicate beading, and engraved details decorate the shoulders.

Originally set with green glass that had shattered over time, the ring was thoughtfully restored by Heirloom Abbey with a reclaimed natural garnet from the family inventory of a longtime Seattle jeweler. Both the vintage mounting and gemstone now have a new chapter.

Founded in Providence in 1879, Ostby & Barton became known for finely crafted die-struck jewelry. Co-founder Engelhart Cornelius Ostby perished aboard the RMS Titanic in 1912. His daughter Helen survived, and in 1914 she, her brother Harold, and Harold’s daughter became joint owners of the company, which continued producing jewelry for decades.
